What the devil just happened? Several of the room’s larger chandeliers have collapsed on the crowd. Many of the delegates were already fleeing the room. Others were pointing up into the stage’s scaffolding at several of my fumbling Jerican.
I began to scream at my lieutenant who was standing dumbfounded on the stage. “Go after the escapees, Franklin, and light the D#$* beacon. I will not let this operation fall through!” I looked about and found that several of the delegate’s bodyguards had begun contending with my men. “And get all of our men in here!”
This off the cuff stuff really makes me… uncivil. I walked to the edge of the balcony and began to shout at the crowd, “I hereby make a declaration of… well I don’t necessarily… but this nation makes a declaration of war on all of you people… Wait… Yes, right, I have the authority!” That sounded terrible. Maybe I should add something else. “And All your base are belong to us! And…” I was stopped from my incoherent rambling by a middle aged Jerican who looked very familiar, but I could not quite place his name.
“ Sir, you had best prepare my promotion, because I have brought a bit of a surprise.” The man hollered to me.
What was his name? Drake, Daniel, Danton; no it was an odd name. DAMIEN, that’s right. Now I don’t think he was assigned to this post. What was it I had sent him to do?
Several patrols of Jerican began shuffling into the large dance hall and started to contend with the bodyguards and some of the unruly delegates. My lieutenant sprinted back into the room and told me that the beacon had been lit.
I smiled at Damien. “I really don’t have any idea what you are talking about, but we should probably leave now.” No sooner had I said this than a great panic started up from behind the kitchen doors. Several cooks and waiters ran out into the frenzy of delegates and Jerican. “What the devil has gotten into that lot?”
My question was answered as a horrific roar came out of the kitchen. Several members of the crowd stopped their contending and looked into the kitchen. They were all flung back by a massive arm that was soon followed by a gnarly head that somewhat bore the resemblance to my Aunt Claire. But my dark humor aside, it was at that instant that I felt truly pressed to leave.
