I didn't move and I continued to fake my sleep as they continued speaking.

"What?" The little girl, who now seemed far from friendly, said. She lowered her voice, "I don't want him dead I just want to know who he is. The girl seems to be of no import but the surety with which he promised to protect her makes me suspicious of him."

The other snickered, "I know I have cast off my ties with humanity but I was once human. He was probably just trying to reassure her as any man would do for the woman he loves. Unless you have," There was a momentary pause to emphasize, "Other reasons to suspect, my Master."

The girl thought about the words for a moment, "Perhaps you are right. I'd like you to keep an eye on him anyways. Tomorrow they will take me back to my little monk and be on their way and I still want to know more, but I have a feeling this one won't give it up easily."

And now that I know your true colors...I grinned. Whatever that thing was in the shadows was going to die if it tried to hurt Bonita, other than that I think I can arrange for some well placed deception. I could feel the shadow leave and the girl began to breathe as if asleep. I relaxed somewhat and fell into my usual 'lighter than air' sleep.
