Crooks had been in his office going over a scouting report when his second in command came in the door and held out a letter. The severe breach of protocol could only mean it must have been THE messenger. Crooks opened and read, he frowned when he finished.
"Colonel Charles," Crooks commanded. "It is that time I spoke of long ago when you were just a lad. You know the time I'm speaking of?"
"Yes General." (Yes I know everyone thought he was the title commander but, no he is a general)
"Good," Crooks stood as he spoke. "Make the preparations. We only have one week before this town is supposed to be reduced to rubble. The key must be found."
Charles left the room and Crooks whispered to himself, "If Bartholomew knew the truth about the key..."

we can change it to general unless it is secret and no one knows he is really a general.
