Samuel Haley

(Five days previous to the events surrounding the Red Mark Street Massacre)

Samuel Haley tromped through the great pined forests that expanded from West Port to the northern Borders of Bartholomew’s kingdom. He had been traveling for quite some time and was beginning to wonder when the Prophet would reveal himself. He came to a small creek and paused from his great journey to get a drink.

The water was cool and refreshing. The peaceful breeze eased the warm, spring sunlight. The pines on the trees bowed and lifted as the wind blew through their branches. Samuel sat down on a large stone that had been smoothed by years of rushing water. He took off his pack and rubbed his shoulders. He then removed a bundle containing flat bread from his pack and munched on a piece.

“What a beautiful day.” He thought as he chewed. “I actually feel… relaxed. I haven’t felt this way for a long time. Ever since the Holy Kielranny (Seekers) told me the Prophet wished me to report on my progress, I have been a little irritated.”

“Eewww!!” A childish voice screamed out from behind Samuel.

Samuel shot up from his seat and put his hand to the hilt of his long-sword, which was at his hip. He twirled around to face the source of the voice.

A young girl stood only a couple of yards from where Samuel was originally sitting. “How can you eat flat bread plain like that?”

Samuel scanned the girl and then let out a whole-hearty belly laugh. He then took his hand from his sword and sat back on the rock. “I eat it plain, little one, because I spilled my Gray sauce (one of many slightly alcoholic, tangy sauces that one may dip flat bread in) a few miles back.”

The little girl giggled. “How did you spill it? Did you make a mess? I hear it stains.”

Samuel was fairly amused by the girl. “I did get a little bit on my sleeve… see.” He held his sleeve up and laughed a bit. “I figure if I get hungry later, I will just take a little lick.”

The girl continued to giggle for several seconds and then looked up at Samuel. “I like you. You’re funny. I am not angry at you anymore.”

Samuel laughed at her final comment. “And why were you angry at me, little nymph? Did my flat bread really offend you that badly?”

The girl’s smile fled her face. “I was angry because you almost lost my friend.”

Samuel’s smirk moved to a half smile. “Oh, and who was your friend?”

“Her name is Tristy… and she gets sad when people hurt her, and she got hurt by some people and it’s your fault.” The little girl’s eyebrows furled and her lips formed a large frown.

Samuel stood up again from the stone and scanned the young girl. “Who are you? And what do you know of the whereabouts of this Tristy character you accuse me of hurting?”

“You did not hurt her, but it’s still your fault. You were supposed to keep my friend safe from the bad men who want my treasure.” She slowly backed up towards the woods. “Don’t look for her anymore. She is at my house now.”

Samuel Haley’s smile was gone. He drew his sword and tromped toward the little girl. “Where is Tristy, you little rat? Where is your home?” He seized the girl by the wrist and threw her into the creek. The girl splashed about in the shallow water, until Samuel pulled her out by her cherry blond hair. He then dragged her to the rock he had been sitting on and put the edge of his blade against her belly. “I am going to give you to the count of three…. One …two … Aaaggh!”

Samuel Haley fell forward onto the little girl, but was soon pulled back and tossed lifelessly into the creek by a cloaked personage. Six other ghostly personages rushed to help the little girl up. “ARE YOU WELL, MASTER?” they all said simultaneously.

“I…I don’t know.” The little girl said teary eyed. “I think I’m alright. I think he just scared me.”

The personages helped the girl to her feet. “WE SHALL BURN THE HERITIC’S BODY, MASTER.” They all said.

“No, don’t do that. I don’t think he knew who I was.” She wiped her face and tried to force a smile. “And don’t call me master anymore. You are all my friends. Just call me Tamy.” She turned to one of the group and embraced him. She then began to sob again.

The group looked about awkwardly. The member being embraced gently moved the girl to the rock. “MAS…” They all paused and then continued. “HANSHELI IS DEAD. HE COULD NOT FUNCTION WITH HIS AFFLICTIONS.” All the personages rose. “IT IS WRITTEN THAT WE MUST HAVE EIGHT. SEVEN LESSER, AND ONE KING. FOR THE PROPHET SHALL CHOOSE THE NEXT KEILRANNY.”

The group backed away from the girl. She sat alone on the rock starring at the ground for several minutes. Her tears stopped. She then stood up and faced the group. “We need to go back to West Port. I want you all to come and meet my best friend.”

half pint?

Like a sack of potato’s, Randy hung, near helpless. Randy was sure that he could help himself, that is if he could stay awake long enough.

--remembering the past---
“Randy, Randy, Randy how many times have I told you not to beat yourself up. The cave thing, it was an accident…. Randy, I know it’s the closest that you’ve been to death. But Randy you have to let it go. Randy, why did you fall in love with her-don’t worry I’ve told no one, but if you persist I’m going to have to tell Moomow…”

“Thanks Talonis, the monastery will live on, though not necessarily because of me.

---back to present--
Am I dead? No if I’m thinking, that wouldn’t work out so well. But why am I here… guess I can choose if I want to live. I choose life. Sorry master Moomow, I should have been a better monk.
Fl
ashing images of that dark night, mine shafts, draping cables and her, “stay here, I said stay there-“
Lil on top of a large ledge she was creeping towards a crane and Randolph lying on the ground overcome from the thugs, Lillian suppressed a scream knowing that she had to execute her plan.
not exactly as I planned. Randy thought to himself. But there’s got to be a way out of this.
“Randy always complains that I need to be more adventurous.” Lil kept telling herself as she was unraveling the load of earth. And that was it. That was the last I saw of her.

His memory seemed to blur form the past to the present. He heard “no I’m staying with him”

“Mira? Wha-“ Randolph tried to stand but his mutilated foot protested. great I was saved by the teenager, meandering around in the sewer system. "please don't let Will see me now." randy mumbled to himself.well better do best of the situation.

still encumbered(and not knowing the situation that just happened with Shilon)Randy tried to make small talk. "half pint, whats your favorite color?" really small conversation.

Bonnie

I was so relieved that Will had found me. I was overcome with emotion as he held me in his arms. I didn't want to move, it was as if the whole world stood still, no one existed but us. Nothing mattered anymore. I looked up at him, his eyes sparkled in the moonlight. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when he looked back, deeply into my eyes. Piercing into my soul. He grabbed my chin and pulled my face close to his. I closed my eyes, awaiting the touch of his soft lips to mine.
*giggle*
What? I opened my eyes and turned towards the sound. There was a strange little child spying on us from the bushes.
"Were you gonna kiss her, mister?" Will looked dejected.
"What do you want?" I asked, a little annoyed myself.
"Name's Tamitha. I was searching for my friend, Randy. He sent for me."
"Well, he's not here. You shouldn't be out by yourself this time of night. It's not safe." Will admonished her.
"Ok, I will stay with you then. You will protect me, I heard you tell her that."

Mira

stupid girl, well you're on your own. I am not going after you. I heard a familiar groan coming from beneath me in the pile of bodies.
"my hand." he croaked.
"Randy!" I pulled him from the pile, glad he was alive.
"the beast...is he gone?" another voice bellowed from the pile.
"yes, but he moves quickly, so we must hurry. I grabbed Randy and draped him over my shoulders. He was very weak. As we started down the dark tunnels I heard a voice coming from the darkness, "where do you think you're going?"
"Master?" I nearly dropped Randy, "this man needs my help."
"who cares? you have work to do."
I felt torn. Should I leave this sweet man to die and do my master's bidding?
"No." I heard myself say. what are you doing, you fool? he'll kill you. "I don't care what you say, I am taking him out of here." Suddenly my loyalty had changed.

Taber Leveret

(Five Minutes before William's battle with Taber)

Blood! I shivered as I tossed another human pest’s body to the ground. The warm matter smothered about my entire frame kept all of my pain away. The relief was so… wonderful. I, for once, was in an impenetrable peace; so much that comfort consumed my entire body.

I could think. My mind was mine to control. Thoughts and plans formulated. Even though screaming filled the halls of my home, I could focus past them. My mind drifted to the small achievement of breaking into the house without seeing the light of the outside. I was fortunate to try this during the I was too hungry though, too greedy for blood, and so I left the home and went out of the house to consume others. I was fortunate that I tried this trap during the night hours. Another fault was how cumbersome I was in the small spaces of the home. My victim was easy to break, but I remember others being so frustrating to kill. It made my anger grow, it made my hunger intensify. I needed to bring the human pests to me.

I did not go into the rat’s nest. When I broke their walls, they spilled out and came to me. I could consume them easier when they were here, in my home.

The rotting wood is not only used as flooring, it also makes up the foundations for many of the older buildings, like the pub on Saint Coolins Street. If I were to remove the supports the building would inevitably…

The screams started to enter my mind and my skin started to burn. I moved to a bewildered drunk who was struggling about at the base of my feeding pile. I quickly appeased my appetite and retained my trail of thought.

These day projects will take time, and I will need my sanity to perform them. I will need to collect prey that will stay warm for me during my long hours of labor. I must collect live humans; they will stay warmer then dead ones.

I must keep them here. Only in this sanctuary can I not smell their putrid stinks. I don’t know yet what to do about the noise, but I am sure I can think of something.

I noticed a man in monkish garb flopping about in the pile of bodies, but decided to save him for another time. He was different from the others. He had the smell of blood on him, beneath all the other wretched scents.

I began to feel the pain again coming on sharply. I made my way to one of the exits to my home and ascended into the city alleys. That is when I smelt something… delicious!

William

* A Quick Taber Flash *

I left that monk alive in the pile because I smelled something I liked more than I hated his smell. It smelled like a soldier, like a warrior, someone who might be able to give me a fight. I wandered out into the night and found him waiting for me, as if he too had sensed me.

I charged blindly at him as I had so many times before but he easily side-stepped and dodged under my claw. I quickly understood that he was going to be much tougher than the others.

* Now To William *

He was fast, I dodged again almost too slowly and he crashed into a building causing screams and panicking. I moved away and was unhappy I hadn't grabbed any of my unique weapons. The one weapon I did bring had already been broken by that massive blade of this monster.

He's fast, strong, immune to pain, unrelenting, and focused. Sounds like me when I get angry. That was it. I had to get myself into a frenzy if I wanted to even survive this fight, but going into a rage like that wasn't just a simple switch like it seemed with this beast.

He came at me again and I managed to dodge the blade but not the blow. His left hand impacted me squarely in the jaw and knocked me onto my back. The damage was insignificant but it hurt. I dodged the blade as he tried to stab me with it and I swung my feet over my head and pushed up and onto my feet, ducking just in time to avoid another attempt at decapitation. I couldn't do this any longer.

"You may smell me." I moved back into an alley.

"You may hear me." I continued onto a rooftop.

"But if you can't see me. I still hold the edge." He clamored onto the building but I was already several buildings away. I hope I bought them enough time to get Randy out.

I saw Bonita running on the streets below and I hurried down and ran into the woods after her. She went up a tree fast as the wind and I crept up beside her as slowly as could be. I could feel her exhaustion and her despair, her feelings of helplessness. She was so caught up in it she hadn't noticed me.

I braced myself a few feet below her where it was a little safer and whispered softly in her ear, "You are safe now Bonnie. I won't let anything hurt you." She was startled at first then, I saw her relax her grip; I pulled her down into my arms and held her tight as she cried on my shoulder. "Shh, you are safe now my little Bonnie." I'm not sure what calmed her down so much, whether it was something I said, time or my holding her but it was working. She calmed down and I just continued to hold her for some time.

Randy and Tabor

(for the time line, Tabor attacked rats and then is on the roof around the same time as Randy and the maid made contact, and is closing in fast. This happened before Bonita's post)

Randy blurted before the maid could say anything, “now, I know what you're thinking. But I got this.” Whipping around the pleasant flower bush that had blatantly been uprooted. Randy held in the aggrivation that he had for the girls returning the flowers.
The maid was so stunned she almost let go a small smile at the futile attempt at a truce. why is he doing this, he’s going to be leaving across the seas tomorrow. but right when she was beginning to think that Randy had a soul, the two floozies (Mira and Bonnie how rude) came up, wearing his cloths and following him around like little puppy dogs, that horrible bag of-why are they wearing them?.
Mira “Now randy we don’t have much time, we have to get Will so we can meet up with Nila.”
Bonita agreed “We don’t want to stay hear any longer then we have to.”
in the Maiden's mind. what’s so wrong with my home!-WHAT?!!! she blasted when she realized, Randy was a pimp! It all made sense, they were even going who knows where, Nila's just to have an average meeting! The evidence practically spoke for itself. One thing was for sure, she would quit her job with Gray if he had any more dealings with this vagabond named RANDY.

the Maid, coming to her senses blurted, “Randy… leave now.”
Randy pleaded, “hey, that’s hardly even fair, hear me out. I want to appolo-”

(Off to the side.)
Mira whispered to Bonnie, “are they dating?”
Bonita replied, “don’t know, thought monks were celibate or something, though”
they shrugged as the conversation went forth.

--tabor--
In the shadows the beast was getting closer, the vile stench of lily’s permeated. climbing down into the sewers as to use less energy jumping over buildings. Leveret began to scratch his arm as the pains began to become unbearable. Luckily his prey was just above his head just threw the floor boards, he’d have to run around to a gate. But the smell was so close.

--back to main group

the Maid commanded, “Randy be gone, you and your mistresses too.”
Randy taken aback, “Whoa, there’s been a huge misunderstanding.”
Maid, “Bye Randy.” SLAM!

Exasperated, Randy looked over to the girls did she-I mean, but- Randy had lost that diplomacy session. And Bonita was having a hard time not laughing at the situation.
Mira trying to bring continuity to the situation, “well, I think Will is off this direction.” ~BOOM~
“what was that?” Randolph said as he swirled to the direction of the noise, it being the maid's home.

---Tabor’s eyes.
Relief was running down his arms and he was dashing and smashing around the room as the horrible scent was being squelched in his hands, then a pest jumped on his back, also reeking of the horrible plants as well.

Tabor easily tossed it to the side bludgeoning it against the brittle broken floor boards and turned his attention to the puny offender. Reaching forth his (metal) clawed hand.
“I’m going to get a lot of relief tonight.” Thought tabor as that was almost his last cognitive thought that his demented mind could think.
Another assailant attacked his lifted arm. enraged, Tabor (with his free arm) grasped the first disabled nuance by the skull and flung him at the sprite, and knocked the other through the wall of the kitchen and roared with pleasure as some gashes helped Tabor deal with his unstoppable itch.

--Randy again

The pain was bubbling his vision and flowing liquid began to rush down his face. Tabor used Randy was his personal club/wall smasher and destroyed most of the complex fighting Mira, a more nimble prey and avoided the grappling suicide Randy was going to remember for the next battle… if there was a next battle. “Wish Mira could get the beast to find another play thing, its going to be a bugger trying to find a doctor.”

---Mira, just a little tired
Smashing his way into a main street and battling there way threw a fish market Tabor just seemed to get stronger and enjoy the dreadful scene, also trying to collect all the mortally wounded that he was propagating. “What was this creature’s motivation? –Gack!” Mira had been grabbed by the throat “Bonita, use your sword!” she hissed with her encumbered voice.
“Bonita’s movements were becoming increasingly choppier as no sane person could reach or stop the prowess of the beast; it obviously was affecting her psychology.”
“Bonita…” Mira squeaked, as the last of life was being removed, and- and Bonita froze.
The only thing that saved Mira was some loose rubble hitting Tabor off balance dropping her as he collected the last few people before he scampered down a sewer entrance with a mass of bodies over his shoulder down to the depths of the sewers.
Unphased by her near death experience, Mira swayed to her feet. “Come on we need to follow it and save Randy.”

---Bonita (if I may)
Running down the swampy corridors, Bonita was wondering if Mira knew what had happened, and if she would say anything.
Bonita was wanting just to run, “not be a strong warrior I can do this” no matter how much the massacre reminded her of her tribe and what happened to them she would out last this-this!”

Submerged in crippled bodies Randy conked out and had fleeting spurts of reality. Randy could only moan when he thought only non-Tabor people were around(man his logic was getting bad) was it safe to moan. he did, seeking help.
